Neutral Diaper Cake

It has been a while since I made my last diaper cake so I was so excited when the opportunity arrived to make one. This time round I wanted to make something different and the picnic basket idea kept ringing in my head. Well since a bottle of wine wouldn't be appropriate for the baby, I settled on making a "Sweets Basket".

The Sweets Basket included:-

2 Ice-cream sundaes
2 receiving blankets, 2 onesies, 2 spoons, 5 bowls

Baby boy Diaper Cake

Usually I like to have time to come up with my creations but this weekend I only had a few hours to make this diaper cake and cook the assigned dish for a baby shower. Let's just say it was a hectic Saturday morning running around trying to come up with a theme for the cake but I made it. Phew!!!

Once I figured out what colors I wanted in the cake, it was a breeze finding what to put in it despite the limit in colors available for baby boys.

The top tier had rose sock cupcakes that were laced with mitten frosting on the side.

The cake topper held messages for the lovely couple.

The cake center was decorated with blueberry burp cloths and chocolate ribbon lacing for an additional tantalizing effect.

The bottom tier was made from buttercream diapers, chocolate ribbon lacing, and teething ring frosting.

It was a delicious cake....YUMMY!!!! ;-)

Thomas the Train Diaper Cake

In February, I was so excited and pumped up after making Aya's diaper cake, I could not wait to make the next one. Unfortunately at that time, there's was no one having a baby any time soon. Then I thought...hmmm....diaper cakes don't have to be for newborns only do they? Why limit my clientele :)...huh?? So then I found myself perusing the aisles of Target and Walmart, trying to come up with an idea for a diaper cake for Heri's 1st bday. What to make?? I came upon the pajama section and tossed between "Thomas the Train" and "Cars". I am so glad Thomas the Train won the debate because his debut went off without a hitch. Well not exactly.. but he came out the way I wanted.

I had some issues with the double-sided tape, so I have to come up with a better solution.

All the same, Heri and his brother enjoyed unwrapping their gift. And that's what matters.

Aya's Diaper Cake

My co-worker had a beautiful baby girl early this year (2011). And mind you right now she looks fabulous...like she didn't have a human being in her. Sigh!!! I can only hope my own body will recover that fast when I have a baby. Anyway back to the diaper cake. So while she was pregnant, she did not want to have an office baby shower so I put a list of baby items together and asked co-workers to contribute. The number of gifts received was so overwhelming!!

One Friday afternoon, some co-workers and I came together to put the diaper cake together and "VOILA!!!!" this is what we came up with.

Mind you I have never made a diaper cake before so I credit the construction help to all the You Tube videos I watched.

Just a side not that it is not easy trying to find things for a baby girl that are not pink as originally requested by the mother. Thankfully baby Aya looks hot in pink so her mother succumbed. YEAH!!!

I would like to thank the You Tube diaper cake makers and my co-workers in helping construct this diaper cake.
